Artist Bio
Susan  Dawson
A self taught artist, I was born in Seattle, WA.  My grandparents loved the
outdoors, camping and fishing.  We spent a lot of time at Ocean Shores,
Curlew, Conconully and Lake Chelan along with other areas of the Pacific
Northwest.  My grandfather painted landscapes in oil.

My father was in the US Army and we traveled to different countries.  We
lived in France, Germany, Korea, and the Philippines.  My father obtained a
Masters Degree in Art. He loved to draw.   I would take his drawings, study
them, and try doing my own.  He also did pressed metal work.

Both my father and grandfather were an inspiration to me as an artist.   I took
every art course offered in school.  My first art show was at the Central
School Building in Tacoma.  Three of my works were shown.  I took a course
from Northlight.  My artwork was shown at Mid Valley Bank in Oroville, Wa.
I was entry # 1 in the 1986 Washington State Salmon Stamp Competition.  I
am a member of  Northwest Pastel Society, I am also a member of Arts of
Snohomish and the International Marine Painter Society.

I spent a lot of years being a wife, mother and running my own business.
Now that my children are grown and have families of their own, I have more
time to spend on my artwork.  I still love the outdoors and I am constantly
inspired by the beauty of nature.  There is something about nature that
fascinates me and gives a calming sense.  It is a challenge portraying this in
a painting.  I love doing landscapes and wildlife in pastels, acrylics, and oils.

I believe you have to love what you do, be willing to take risks and
understand a path well worn has many lessons.
